I think a lot about what my classmate, Jasper, said about how technology should be a tool and not a friend. I have allowed myself to see my phone as more than just a tool and although I don’t see it as a friend I have definitely been using it to distract me, entertain me, and educate me. This usage of technology has not aligned with my values at all. Finding my own creativity is something I value but I constantly look to technology to find inspiration and creativity and I slowly see how I become less me. I struggle to use these tools I have correctly (if there even is a way) I seem to have no balance with it. I also value my family and friends but I don’t even use my phone to try and connect with them as often as I should– they’re a phone call away but I use the phone for something else.

Week 2

✴︎
Digital
Detox

Really, technology should be what I want it to be. It

shouldn’t hape me in any form. It should serve me

as I write emails, make posters, do homework, look

up directions to a restaurant, hours of operation,

hear what my family has been up to, and sometim-

es the what is going on in the world, politically and

culturally. It should be a tool that I utilize when I

need to and not this want to (when I am bored etc).

I want to have a relationship where I am less

dependent on it and can truly think for myself. I

think that is where I can find some wellness.
