Slowly but surely!

September 28 2025

Being outside hasn’t been too fruitful, in terms of me really exploring, but I do think I am now really spontaneously going outside whenever I can instead of scheduling outside time.

I feel like I am slowly making progress, I am less bothered by the small critters that crawl from the tree areas, I feel calm outside and feel more attentive to how I am doing as in being more reflective.

In the moments of being outside I have been more clear headed– tuning into the sound of the trees swaying in the wind and bird chirping. I did go out by myself for this day it was so nice to just give myself an easy day where I could just decompress (and the sun was shining).

In general since the beginning of the challenge after I’ve been outside for the day I have been feeling a bit down like I should be doing more (hiking etc) but I do realize I should give myself grace. I am doing more than I normally would! I think the next check in I would like to do something more out of my comfort zone so I have that to look forward to. I really want to reach my goals by the end of this challenge.

I have been keeping up with my policy:

  • 2/15 days for visitors
  • no headphones
  • inaturalist is used to explore and hasn’t been abused!

This video is actually from Day 9 (September 29) because I decided to print all my readings and go outside to do homework instead of going to my thesis carrel. I love squirrels and this one was approaching the tree I was by but it went the other direction. One future goal is to have an interaction with a squirrel or chipmunk (safely giving them a nut).
